  • 2K is preparing to commemorate the 21st anniversary of basketball by hosting a special event in conjunction with their NBA 2K games. It was announced on Friday that 2KFest, a live stream event celebrating music, basketball, gaming, and culture will take place in the summer of 2019. As part of the celebration, WNBA and NBA stars will take the court. This includes Zion Williamson, the cover star of NBA 2K21, and Damian Lillard, who is also one of the musical performers.

On November 13, the video game company 2K officially announced their "inaugural global event," which they are calling 2KFest. A special 24-hour live event will be held to commemorate the 21st anniversary of 2K. The “first of its kind” event will be broadcast live on the internet. The event will be hosted by sports broadcaster Ros Gold-Onwude, who will be joined by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who won the Golden Glove award at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

In addition to WNBA and NBA stars and legends, the special event will feature musical talent and global influencers. In addition, there will be exclusive 2K content as part of what is being billed as "an action-packed day of experiences."

The event will feature cover stars and legends from NBA 2K21.
In addition, as part of Friday's big announcement, they revealed the names of many of the WNBA and NBA stars who will be in attendance at the 2KFest event. Anthony Davis, the cover star from last year's game, is included, as are the cover stars from NBA 2K21, Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson. Zion Williamson is featured on the NBA 2K21 Current-Gen cover, while Damian Lillard appears on the buy 2K21 MT Next-Gen cover.

Candace Parker, Jayson Tatum, Ben Simmons, and Kevin Durant will all be in attendance, as will NBA legends Vince Carter and Shaquille O'Neal. In addition, a number of global influencers and musical talents will be present at the event.

The NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Edition was released just a few days ago, The Xbox Series X/S from Microsoft was the first to ship, with the Sony PlayStation 5 following a few days later. The new version of 2K's game received a launch-day update, and there will be more in the coming weeks. Essentially, a large number of NBA 2K21 Next-Gen face scans will be included in the game.

Erick Boenisch provides his thoughts on the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Face Scan update.
Erick Boenisch, Executive Producer of NBA 2K21, explained the situation with face scans in a video posted on Twitter on Thursday (November 12). He talked about how realistic it looked to see players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the first next-gen trailer and how realistic they looked in the second. He did, however, point out that there are still more players' faces that need to be included.

He basically stated that 2K no longer had access to NBA players after the league was forced to close its doors in March of this year. They were also unable to gain entry into the NBA bubble site in Florida this past July. As a result, they were unable to complete the scanning of all of the players they required.

We previously reported on how the new NBA 2K21 Next-Gen games for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X take up a significant amount of storage space on the respective systems. It was reported that it would take more than 120GB on the new Xbox and around 150GB or so on the PS5. However, due to the fact that there were not many things to update on Day 1, the Day 1 launch update was not particularly large in size.

The game has received a few other additions in addition to the new face scans that Boenisch mentioned. According to Real Sport 101, they included Bape Official face masks (shown below), as well as the resolution of an NBA 2K21 banner issue in the game.
